An interview is an opportunity – get your questions ready

Leaving an interview without asking the interviewer questions, is a missed opportunity. It makes you seem unenthusiastic about the role or company. Show your enthusiasm, come prepared to ask questions.
Here are a few examples of questions to ask an interviewer:
- Is this a newly created role?
- Where has last person that held this position moved to?
- What will the day-to-day responsibilities of the role look like?
- What is the most challenging aspect of this position?
- What are the most immediate projects I will be working on?
- What does success look like in this position – and how will it be measured?
- What are the most important things you’d like to see someone accomplish in the first 30, 60, and 90 days in this position?
- Who will I be working most closely with?
- Can you tell me about the team I’ll be working with?
- What attributes does someone need to have to be really successful in this role?
- Are there opportunities for professional development? Does the company have a learning and development programme?
- What are the common career paths in this department?
- How long have you been with the company?
- What’s your favourite part about working here?
- I’ve read about the company’s mission, vision and founding story, but can you tell me more…?
- What’s the company and team culture like?
- What’s different about working here than anywhere else you’ve worked?
- Is there anything that concerns you about my background being a fit for this role?
- Is there anything else I can provide you with that would be helpful?
- Can I answer any final questions for you?
Before you go into an interview find out as much about the company as you can. As much as you want to land a job, you have to evaluate if the company is a fit for you and your career goals too.
